Papdi no lot (Gujarati Style)

Papdi no lot or Khichiyu, what ever you want to call this recipe is well known in Gujarat and many of us grew up eating this all the time. I love eating this in the summer time because it reminds me so much of childhood and how everyone in the summer would make papri’s. I grew up eating this papdi ka lot with my family.

Prep time: 45 minutes


Ingredients: (3 people)

1. 2 bowl broken rice(kanki) flour

2. 2cup water

3. 4-5 chopped green chilli

4. 1 tbs carom seeds

5. 2 tbs cumin seeds

6. 1/2 tbs baking soda

7. Salt as per taste

8. Vegetable oil and pickle masala (Sambhar masala) for serving.


Here's the recipe :


1. Firstly take metal vessel and add water.


2. Add cumin seeds, salt, carom seeds, baking soda, chopped green chilli and mix all ingredients well. And cook it for 3-4 minutes.


3. In a separate bowl, take kanki flour. Add above prepared water and some oil to it.


4. Knead it properly to make a dough. Make sure it is properly mixed by braking pumps if any.


5. Make small balls from the dough and oil it on both the sides before placing it in steamer.

7. Cover the steamer and cook it until rice flour are cooked completely around 35 minutes in low-medium flame.


8. Check if it's cooked and turned to light yellow color. Khichu or papadi no lot is ready enjoy it with oil and pickle masala.
